Finance Yorkshire unveils plans to help more new businesses with a range of investment plans worth £90 million

 guest post by Steve Knowles

As a chartered accountant, one of the ways in which I help my clients to achieve their dreams and ambitions is to make them aware of the types of funding that are available and help them to apply for the money that they need to start and grow a successful business.  As part of my ongoing efforts to keep my knowledge up to date, I attend various events to learn about new developments and network with other professionals.

One such event that I attended recently was the Finance Yorkshire Roadshow in Sheffield, where they explained how they have invested over £15 million since August 2010 into local businesses and they talked about their exciting plans to help many more businesses in the future.

They will soon be starting to work alongside financial intermediaries, other lenders and investors to give region-wide access to finance.   The various investment packages are designed to support eligible businesses through critical stages of growth from start-up through to major expansion.  The details are as follows:

Business Loans – £15k – £150k

  • Typically unsecured loans of between £15,000 and £150,000 for established businesses
  • Typically unsecured loans of between £15,000 and £50,000 for start up and early stage businesses
  • Investments may include capital expenditure and cashflow finance
  • Interest rate rebates available to established businesses (subject to conditions)

Seedcorn Finance – up to £780k

  • For new and early stage technology and knowledge-based businesses
  • Clients are likely to be pre-revenue and high risk, but have potential for high growth and for good return realisation
  • Equity-based investments are usually made in trances, as the business develops and grows
  • Specialist support is given to growing businesses in return for a share of the eventual returns

Equity Linked Finance – £100k – £2m

  • Equity-based investments from £100k to £2m
  • Mezzanine loans (with equity options or redemption premium) from £100k to £1m
  • Joint equity linked packages up to £2m
  • All types of investment considered including growth, capital expenditure and some larger start-up businesses
