What have you done today…

… to make you feel proud?

I recently blogged about remembering why you set up in business, not losing sight of the goals that you had back then.

I was given a Miranda DVD box set for my birthday and watched it recently.   Sarah Hadland plays the joke shop manager Stevie and in every episode she sings her mantra – Heather Smalls  ‘What have you done today to make you feel proud?’

As well as making me laugh a lot this little mantra made me sit down and think.  Running a business is hard work yes, but we don’t do it for fun.  We do it to accomplish a goal be that personal or financial.  But, how often do you actually sit back and look at your efforts and feel proud of them?

Sarah’s character believes that at the end of each day you should have accomplished something that makes you feel proud, and on reflection, I agree with her.

It may be something small, it may be something big, but each day accomplish something that makes you feel proud, that makes you feel you have achieved something.

What that can be is different for everyone, we all have different goals or aspriations in life but we all feel better when we accomplish them.

Take a moment at the end of each day to reflect on your day, if you haven’t got something you’re proud of then why not? What small change could you make to ensure that you do achieve that every day.  Being proud of your achievements is allowed, it’s not vanity, it’s just allowing yourself to recognise what you do well, how you have helped others and acknowledging the good person that you are.  It doesn’t have to have been a business achievement, it can be something personal, but do allow yourself the opportunity to give yourself a pat on the back each day.

And on that note, I’ll leave you with the fantastic Sarah Hadland who says it so much better than I possibly could!

  1. Why not hit 2 birds with 1 stone? If you perform a random act of kindness it makes you feel proud of myself and makes the other person(s) feel good too 😉 I try to – tis good for the soul 🙂

Yep, that works, it’s anything that makes you feel good about your day and that is an excellent way of feeling good.
